Our sponsorship scheme has been running since the Trust’s early days and is one of our great successes. At present over 400 children are sponsored. The children come from the poorest homes in the village and many are orphans or are brought up by one parent only.  The money from their sponsors in the UK and around the world is a godsend to improving their day-to-day welfare and, under the wing of the Trust, they are given the confidence to develop their skills and progress to further education and good careers. 

The Trust pays for their university or vocational training fees giving them vast career choices they never thought possible and a future filled with hope and happiness and an end to poverty.


Currently we have 75 sponsored children at university training to be doctors, lawyers, bankers, IT specialists, teachers, nurses and civil servants.  Hundreds have already graduated and are enjoying their careers and able to look after their parents and provide better homes for them.  If an academic route isn’t suitable, there are good career opportunities as electricians, air conditioning engineers, mechanics, beauticians and tailors.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SPONSOR A CHILD

New sponsors are always very welcome.  Please contact our Emma UK administrator, emmaholder.venkattrust@outlook.com or Aarthi, our administrator in Kovalam, admin@venkattrust.org.in to get details and photos of a child waiting for sponsorship.  

The cost per month is £14.  Of this, £8 is given to the family to improve the child’s general welfare and £6 is kept in a savings account for the more expensive years of further education ahead.

The children write letters and cards to their sponsors and are always delighted to hear from their sponsors, who are welcome to visit Kovalam to meet their children.

GUIDELINES FOR EXISTING SPONSORS

If you would like to send a letter, card or present to your sponsored child, the address is Child’s name (sponsor’s surname), Venkat Trust, 5/281 Kailasa Nathar Koil Street, Kovalam 603112, Tami Nadu, India. If you are sending a present, please use the Royal Mail’s tracking service.

It is now possible for sponsors to email their sponsored child using the address vmt.sponsoredchildren@gmail.com Your email address will not be disclosed.  The children will continue to send their letters using the mail service and you are welcome to do so too.

Gifts of money are always welcome but please do not send by post – it probably won’t arrive – but pay into the Trust’s UK account (Venkat Trust, 40-24-10, 11349406) including the child’s name as the reference. If you can also let Emma know via the email address below, she’ll liaise with Aarthi in Kovalam and the equivalent amount will be paid to him or her in rupees.  Alternatively, a cheque can be sent to Venkat Trust, 12 Westbourne Gardens, Hove BN3 5PP.
